Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Canteen Chef to join our team and oversee the preparation of daily meals for 50 to 100 employees. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in traditional Zambian cuisine and also capable of preparing occasional international or fancy dishes. In addition to cooking, the Chef will be responsible for menu planning, cost control, inventory management, and ensuring high standards of kitchen hygiene and food safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare traditional Zambian meals such as nshima, beans, village chicken, ifisashi, and other local favorites.
- Occasionally cook international or fancy meals including pasta, grilled meats, rice dishes, etc.
- Plan and rotate weekly menus that are nutritious, cost-effective, and suited to employee preferences.
- Monitor kitchen inventory and ensure timely procurement of ingredients.
- Control daily meal costs and reduce food wastage through efficient planning and preparation.
- Uphold high standards of cleanliness and food safety throughout the kitchen.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of any supporting kitchen staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years proven experience as a cook or chef in a canteen, institutional kitchen, or similar environment.
- Deep knowledge and experience in preparing Zambian dishes and familiarity with some international meals.
- Strong abilities in menu development, meal planning, and budget management.
- Sound knowledge of food hygiene, safety standards, and kitchen sanitation procedures.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently manage a small kitchen team.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
