Job Purpose
The Communication Specialist will be responsible for providing visibility of the project to the Public and to be able to engage with the media on issues that concern the project.

The Responsibilities/Communications Specialist includes, but not limited to, the following

  • Will be responsible for the implementation of effective communication within the project team and with external stakeholders, including issuance of press release and corporate communication;Job fairs and events
  • Organize public relations events, manage website and social media content, and develop communications materials for various types of audiences of the PIU;
  • Will be responsible for the development and executing effective communication strategies;
  • Liaise with relevant channels for press releases, press conferences, interviews, lectures/talk, including production of relevant information (print and electronic) materials for distribution or broadcast to target audiences;
  • Help organize visits for journalists, Civil Society Organisations, community groups and other stakeholders in order to best disseminate positive and accurate stories about the PIU Projects and initiatives;
  • Supervise the establishment and maintenance of a stakeholder database and an audit trail of stakeholder engagement events;
  • Reach out proactively to private sector, CSO and other interest groups and help them map out their activities and potential commitments and interests with the PIU;
  • Support the facilitation of the strategic or project-related dialogue between PIU and SPMU staff and stakeholders;
  • Serve as the main focal point of contact with the media;
  • Monitor and clear the dissemination of information on project implementation and performance;
  • Develop Communications campaign materials and tools for visibility of the project;
  • Build and maintain positive relations with stakeholders, refuges and the host community; and
  • Any other Task as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade Twelve (12) Certificate;
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field from a reputable University;
  • Should have at least 5 years working experience in communications or public relations;
  • Excellent communication skills, being able to craft clear engaging messages for diverse populations;
  • Demonstrated experience working in organising international events in a multi-national/multi-donor environment;
  • Must have a good understanding of public relations on how to build a good relationship between the media and the community;
  • Prior experience working on donor funded projects in Zambia will be an added advantage;Online job training courses
  • Good track record working in a similar capacity; and
  • Should be able to handle communication crisis and resolve them.

The candidate should be able to identify and resolve communication issues and crises, good communication and written skills, ability to work well in a team, should be of sober character, and should propose high integrity levels
