Role Summary:

The Credit Manager will lead the Credit & Risk Department, overseeing the evaluation of creditworthiness, managing credit risk, and ensuring full recovery of all disbursed loans. This role is pivotal in maintaining the financial health, security, and sustainability of the business through effective credit management, risk analysis, and recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of loan applications submitted by team members.
  • Suggest and present evaluated loan applications to various credit committees.
  • Review and verify loan documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Conduct fraud checks to prevent and detect irregularities.
  • Oversee the timely processing of loan applications within a 24-hour turnaround.
  • Ensure all loan documentation complies with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and verify Direct Debit and Credit Clearance mandate forms for accuracy and compliance.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including the Bank of Zambia and other financial institutions, regarding lending policy and regulatory matters.
  • Conduct assessments to identify and analyze potential loan recovery risks.
  • Define and implement strategies to mitigate credit risk and manage loan defaults.
  • Coordinate the tracking and posting of repayments to loan accounts.
  • Ensure consistent collection on off-payroll loans through Direct Debit and Credit Clearance.
  • Collect and analyze financial data to guide lending and investment decisions.
  • Monitor repayment performance and settlement timelines, ensuring compliance with policy.
  • Prepare monthly credit, risk, and portfolio reports by the 10th of the following month.
  • Evaluate strategic credit positions and provide insights for business decisions.
  • Train and orient new and existing employees on updated credit procedures.
  • Develop and implement performance monitoring systems for the Credit & Risk team.
  • Recommend and update daily sales and collections reports to enhance operational visibility.
  • Convert and archive loan documents electronically for secure and efficient access.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience, with at least 1 year in the Microfinance sector.
  • Proven experience in loan evaluation, collections, credit risk analysis, and recovery.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Excellent analytical, planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters.
  • Capacity to produce high-quality reports, including SWOT analyses.
    Preferred Attributes:
  • Certification in Credit Management (e.g., CICM, CCMP) is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with PayGo industry regulations and standards in Zambia.
  • Collaborative mindset to work effectively with Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Customer Loyalty teams.
  • Flexibility to handle tasks on short notice and with minimal supervision.
