Position Summary

The District Associate supports ATM-EE’s district-level implementation of education, empowerment, and community mobilization activities focused on teenage mothers, adolescent girls, and other vulnerable youths. This role helps bridge organizational strategy with on-ground delivery, ensures stakeholder coordination, and strengthens community engagement to improve school retention, sexual and reproductive health awareness, economic opportunities, and advocacy outcomes at the district level.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Implementation & Coordination

  • Assist in planning and implementing district-level project activities that promote school re-entry and retention for teenage mothers and adolescent girls.
  • Support delivery of empowerment initiatives such as life-skills training, peer mentorship, and community dialogues.
  • Coordinate with schools, health facilities, youth clubs, and local committees to ensure smooth execution of activities and services.
  • Track progress against work plans and targets, and report variances to the Programme Manager.

2. Community Engagement & Mobilization

  • Conduct community outreach to raise awareness about ATM-EE’s programmes, rights to education, reproductive health, and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Facilitate community meetings, focus groups, and dialogues with parents, youth, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to encourage inclusive participation.
  • Build rapport with district authorities, local government departments (e.g., education, health, social services), and civil society partners to foster collaboration.

3. Monitoring, Data & Reporting

  • Collect, compile, and analyse project data (attendance, referrals, workshops held, beneficiaries reached) for regular reports.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation efforts by conducting field visits, documenting best practices and challenges, and contributing to data quality assurance.
  • Prepare timely narrative and statistical progress reports for internal use, partners, and donors.

4. Advocacy & Partnerships

  • Advocate at district forums, school boards, and community committees for policies and practices that support education access, teen health, and socio-economic inclusion.
  • Help coordinate partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, youth networks, and local institutions to expand programme reach.
  • Contribute to the development of advocacy materials, case studies, and community-driven success stories.

5. Capacity Building

  • Support training and capacity strengthening for community volunteers, youth mobilizers, peer mentors, and district stakeholders on programme tools and approaches.
  • Mentor and provide on-the-ground guidance to community champions working on teen mothers’ support initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Education, Public Health, Gender Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in community-based development, youth empowerment, education advocacy, or similar NGO work.
  • Experience working with adolescents, women’s rights, or gender-based programmes is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Zambian district systems (education, health, social welfare) and local cultural contexts.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Bemba, Nyanja) is an advantage.
