The Hostel Parent plays a central role in creating a warm, caring, and structured home-away-from-home environment for our primary boarders. The role requires strong Christian character, emotional intelligence, and the ability to nurture, guide, and mentor children in their formative years. The Hostel Parent ensures that the hostel operates efficiently and that the well-being, safety, and spiritual growth of every child are prioritised.
PERSON PROFILE:
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for working with children and a heart for Christian service.
- Have prior experience in pastoral care, child welfare, education, or boarding management.
- Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Hold a minimum Degree in Education, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing, Early Childhood Development, or a related field.
- Have at least three years’ experience working with children in a boarding, pastoral, educational, or childcare setting.
- Be organised, dependable, and able to manage hostel routines effectively.
- Show emotional maturity, empathy, and resilience in a dynamic school environment.
Possess sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to handle sensitive matters appropriately.
- Be willing to live on-site and actively participate in the spiritual and community life of the school.
- Uphold Chengelo’s vision, mission, and Christian ethos in all aspects of work and relationships.
REMUNERATION:
Staff who work at Chengelo do so out of a sense of calling and are paid at good local Zambian rates. The school provides accommodation on site; discounted school fees; main meal during term time; local medical cover; transport home every two years; and a gratuity payment at the end of the contract.
