JOB PURPOSE
To provide input and effective support to Senior Legal Counsel – Compliance on all regulatory and corporate compliance matters.
The holder is responsible for providing input into initiatives for supporting regulatory and corporate compliance.
The holder also conducts research on all current and new regulations relevant to compliance, company processes on instruction from the Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (MAIN DUTIES)
Departmental Planning and Budgeting
Provides input to Senior Legal Counsel -Compliance into the departmental workplan and budget.
Legal Advisory
Provide draft legal opinions and advice on instruction from the Senior Legal Counsel -Compliance.
Litigation
Attend to in house litigation as assigned.
Provide input into negotiations with External Legal Counsel on fee structure and liaise with them on case management strategy as assigned.
Provide input in developing strategies to resolve cases favorably and cost effectively.
Provide input into the Department weekly, fortnightly, and quarterly reports.
Conveyancing and Corporate Transactions
Provide support to Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance in attending to representation in conveyancing and corporate transactions either through External Counsel or in-house legal representation as assigned.
Provide input to in-house conveyancing and corporate transactions as assigned.
Statutory and Corporate Compliance
Makes recommendations for the development and implementation of company policies and regulations to the Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance.
Provide input in legal advice on all business operations relating to compliance including policies, investments, and procedures as assigned.
Makes recommendations to the Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance for designing and monitoring control systems to deal with violations of legal rules and internal policies.
Undertakes the assessment of the efficiency of control systems and recommend effective improvements to the Senior Legal Counsel-Compliance.
Reviewing and evaluating company procedures and compliance risk management strategies as assigned.
Undertake audits on company procedures and processes as assigned.
Coordinates employee training sessions on legal and compliance issues as assigned.
Makes recommendations to the department on statutory and corporate governance matters as assigned, including providing unsolicited updates and advise on any changes in the legal and corporate governance framework.
Secretarial Services
Participate and provide secretarial services during Division/departmental Meetings.
Enhanced employee engagement and performance
Timely submission of completed performance contract to supervisor.
Suggest and propose initiatives to support corporate values suggested to supervisor.
Ensure submission of completed Performance Appraisal to supervisor.
Periodically submits required reports relating to mentorship and training/coaching programmes to the department in charge of Human Capital.
Health and Safety
Take reasonable care for own health and safety as well as that of other employees, clients, and others as may be required from time to time.
Furtherance of Company’s Interests
Exercise the powers and duties generally exercised by Legal Counsel – Compliance in the furtherance of the interests of the company as may be authorised and or delegated by the Supervisor.
Any other Duties
Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Professional Qualification:
Grade 12 School Certificate
Bachelor of Laws Degree and/or equivalent Professional Qualification in relevant field from reputable institution
Advocate of the High Court of Zambia
Professional Membership of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ)
Minimum Relevant Work Experience:
2 years relevant work experience or similar position
Skill Specifications:

Ability to work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders
Data management and record keeping.
