Background
Zamflourspar limited is one of the leading mining company in Zambia with its core activities in the mining and exploration of flourite minerals. The company was incorporated on the 10th of February 2015. The company exports the valuable fluorspar mineral to China, Indonesia, and Ukraine beingsome of its major buyers. The mineral is used in the steel, aluminum, and chemical industries, as well as in the production of solar panels and refrigeration.The mining operations are done in the southern part of the country. The Company is now hiring for the position of a Mining Consumables and Purchasing Specialist. The Company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill this vacancy and the ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient, cost-effective, and timely acquisition of essential goods and services required for mining operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies. The role involves vendor management, contract negotiation, and inventory control specific to the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Sourcing and Supplier Management: Research, identify, and evaluate prospective suppliers for a variety of mining essentials such as lubricants, workshop products, parts, and equipment. Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with key suppliers to ensure consistent quality and reliability of supply.
- Negotiation and Contracts: Negotiate purchase terms, conditions, and pricing with vendors to secure favorable agreements and achieve cost savings. Prepare, issue, and monitor contracts and purchase orders (POs) to ensure vendor compliance with terms and conditions.
- Procurement Process Management: Receive and process purchase needs from various internal departments, ensuring all requisitions are in line with budgetary constraints and company policy. Track orders and expedite deliveries to prevent supply chain disruptions and meet operational demands.
- Inventory and Quality Control: Monitor inventory levels of essential consumables to prevent stockouts or overstocking, coordinating with warehousing and logistics teams. Collaborate with quality control personnel to inspect and evaluate the quality of purchased items, resolving any discrepancies or non-conformances.
- Market Analysis and Strategy: Conduct market research and analysis to stay informed on industry trends, commodity pricing, and new products/technologies. Support senior management in developing and implementing strategic sourcing strategies.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance for auditing and reporting purposes. Ensure all procurement activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Typically a minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, with specific knowledge of mining equipment and consumables highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential. Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and data analysis tools is often required.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is typically required. Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) are desirable.
