PURPOSE
This exciting opportunity exists in Fraser Alexander to plan, measure, monitor, and report on all costs and quantities associated with tailings projects, from the outset until completion, in support of effective and efficient project delivery and the achievement of contract performance and financial targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Functional Management
- Execute project responsibilities within your function in alignment with the organisational strategy to achieve set goals.
- Report on Quantity Surveying (QS) functional performance, as well as project performance related to cost and quantities, and report to head office support on QS functional performance and compliance.
Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management
- Prepare monthly valuations with the Senior Superintendent/Superintendent, Resident Engineer, and/or the client.
- Undertake cost analysis for various work tasks.
- Provide assistance and/or advice on procurement-related matters and ensure that budgets are adhered to while working within the FA Procurement Policies.
Business Development (Tendering & Estimating)
- Assist in maintaining proposal registers and document control.
- Assist with tender documentation preparation and submissions.
- Participate in the procurement of subcontractors and materials, prepare and continuously review estimates and allowable for all products.
Risk Management & Compliance, incl. ESG responsible
- Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks.
- Perform risk, value management, and cost control.
- Ensure that all project risks and opportunities relating to their area of responsibility are identified, and mitigating actions are implemented and monitored.
Stakeholder Management (Internal/External)
- Ensure professional interaction with clients and all stakeholders at the middle to senior management level.
- Maintain a working relationship with head office structures with regard to their function, in support of compliant and profitable project delivery and governance.
Operations & Project Management
- Monitor costs and compile daily cost reports using established costing systems and report any problem activities or areas.
- Ensure that site staff accurately and promptly complete all reports required for cost and quantity control.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc or BTech in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years’ experience on large projects greater than R50 million and responsible for measurement, subcontractor management, certification, contract, and project management.
- Proven track record of more than 5 years’ experience in construction or engineering-related projects.
- Knowledge of JBCC Suite, FIDIC and NEC3 contracts.
- Experience with (RIBCCS Certified), Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Projects.
- Candidate Professional Quantity Surveyor with SACPMCP, SACQSP or MRICS.
SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Solid understanding of the Mining Industry with specific emphasis on the tailings business.
- Knowledge and understanding of the national legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to the tailings business.
- Medically fit in accordance with company standards.
