The Opportunity

Hobbiton Technologies is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and experienced Risk and Compliance Officer to join our growing team. This role is critical to strengthening our risk management and compliance frameworks and ensuring full adherence to internal policies, legal obligations, and external regulatory requirements. The position is based in Lusaka, and applicants should either reside in Lusaka or be willing to self-relocate.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Monitor organizational compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including requirements set by Bank of Zambia (BoZ), Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), PACRA, and other relevant regulators.
  • Assist in conducting enterprise risk assessments and internal compliance audits to identify and evaluate risk exposures.
  • Maintain and regularly update risk and compliance registers in line with established procedures.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive risk and compliance reports to management.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and deliver staff training on compliance, ethics, and risk awareness.
  • Investigate potential breaches of policies or regulations and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and returns as required.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory frameworks and advise management accordingly.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Zambian regulatory and statutory compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legal, regulatory, and policy documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and compliance-related systems.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • High levels of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in a risk management or compliance role, preferably within a regulated industry such as financial services, insurance, or fintech.
  • Practical experience in conducting compliance audits and risk assessments.
