Role Summary:
As a Risk Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating a wide spectrum of organizational risks across operations, credit, financial markets, IT, and compliance. You will also be expected to provide key strategic insights and risk recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and prioritize risks across operational, financial, credit, market, liquidity, and compliance areas
- Develop and implement enterprise-wide risk management strategies and frameworks
- Monitor emerging risks and ensure timely mitigation plans are in place
- Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to management and board-level committees
Credit Risk Oversight:
- Oversee credit risk assessment processes and loan portfolio reviews
- Evaluate and monitor credit risk exposure, policies, and procedures
- Develop and implement credit risk mitigation strategies to minimize non-performing loans (NPLs)
Operational Risk Management:
- Assess risks related to fraud, IT security, cyber threats, and internal control failures
- Design and implement controls to reduce operational risk
- Conduct internal audits and risk-based reviews to ensure compliance with institutional policies
Strategic Risk Advisory:
- Provide risk-related insights to support strategic planning and corporate decision-making
- Conduct scenario analysis, simulations, and stress tests
- Collaborate with business units to align risk posture with organizational goals
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Risk Management, or any relevant discipline
- Professional certifications such as FRM, CRM, CPA, or ACCA are added advantages
- 2–3 years of professional experience in risk management, preferably within financial services, banking, or microfinance institutions
- Sound understanding of Bank of Zambia regulatory requirements and local compliance standards
- Experience in enterprise risk management frameworks, stress testing, and internal control development
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
