Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

  • To oversee the health and safety performance of all contractors and subcontractors working within FQM Trident Limited’s operational and non-operational areas, ensuring compliance with Trident’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS), regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations to mitigate safety risks associated with contractor activities

Specific Job Responsibility:

  • Review and approve contractor safety documentation, including Health and Safety Management Plans (HSMPs), risk assessments, and procedures prior to contract award and commencement of work.
  • Ensure that all Contractor personnel can access the policies and procedures of the company – from a safety standpoint.
  • Apply Trident’s defined risk categorization framework to determine and implement appropriate safety monitoring, inspection, measurement and evaluation plans / programs, with due consideration for emergency preparedness, statutory compliance and industrial hygiene.
  • Provide visibility on contractor safety performance to all relevant stakeholders; Contractor managers, Commercial Leads, Contracts managers, General Management, etc.
  • Participate in Contract Tender evaluations whenever requested by the Commercial Manager or Contracts Superintendent.
  • Periodically check that processes / systems to ensure the verification of competency for high-risk roles remain in place and are adequate.
  • Drive the closure of outstanding safety actions amongst Contractors.
  • Take a leading role in the completion, review and management of safety incident investigations and audits involving Contractors.
  • Promote worker participation in Trident’s HSMS amongst Contractor employees through periodic Safety meetings, Think communications and various consultative engagements.
  • Providing expert guidance to identify, evaluate, and reduce operational safety risks arising from Contractor activity at Trident.
  • Ensuring that all Contractor Safety record keeping and reporting is done to an appropriate standard through INX InControl.
  • Perform any other duties as and when assigned by the Health & Safety Manager or other Departmental Managers.

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Required to work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills and be able to build relationships with external partners.
  • The ability to be able to solve problems, interpret complex issues and motivate others to work to the best of their ability is essential.

Key Job Attributes:

  • Must maintain an exceptionally high standard of safety
  • Must be hard working
  • Excellent management skills and can also operate as a team player.
  • Must be persuasive but courteous
  • Must pay attention to detail

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in related field
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Excellent organisational and presentation skills
  • Must be knowledgeable about legislation governing health and safety

Qualification:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Safety, Business Management, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or any technical mining-related field
  • Must hold a valid drivers’ licence
  • Must have a certificate in First Aid Treatment
