JOB DETAILS:
Position: Sanitation and Hygiene Officer (HEA) Location: Matapala (Nchelenge) and Mayukwayukwa (Kaoma)
Purpose of Position
Coordinate and support the design, implementation and review of sanitation and Hygiene interventions for improved service delivery, knowledge and practices in the settlement and surrounding communities for a sustainable a healthy environment. .

Major Responsibilities
Technical Support
• Support the design, implementation and review of sanitation and Hygiene interventions for improved sanitation, hygiene knowledge and practices in the settlement
• Implement community led total sanitation (CLT), PHAST and other pilot sanitation methodologies that will ensure improved sanitation facilities in the settlement and the host communities.
• Facilitate in ensuring water quality sampling and monitoring to maintain good health and hygiene in the settlement.
• Supervision of latrine construction in the settlement and undertake risk assessments for quick recommendations to ensure safe and quality structures.
• Coordinate the awareness of maintenance of the sanitation structures and facilities in the camp
• Implement Sanitation and hygiene programmes in the settlement aimed at reducing the prevalence of waterborne and water related diseases through the promotion of personal hygiene and environmental practices among communities and school children.
• Undertake and support interventions that will improve community capacity to manage facilities and establishing an effective framework for sustainable hygiene and sanitation development to improve the refugee camp living conditions.
Collaboration and Partnering
• Ensure that the Hygiene and Sanitation information, education and communication (IEC) materials are in place and disseminated for effective implementation.
• Ensure recommended program models are contextualized to Hygiene, Sanitation and Behavioral Change for effective implementation in the Refugee camps and settlement.
• Capacity building of Refugees in the use of latrines, on water, sanitation, hygiene, gender issues and prevention of communicable diseases;
• Ensure promoting of deworming and handwashing especially among school children;
• Collaborating with D-WASHE and V-WASHE committees and other partners including local leaders;
• Represent WVZL in various key meetings including WASH Working Group (WG) for alignment of National priorities.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders for enhanced collaboration and sustainability

Qualifications, technical experience, knowledge, competencies and skills
• Diploma in Public/Environmental Health, Water Engineering/Social Science or related field with minimum two (2) years’ experience in a relevant field.
• Degree in Public/Environmental Health, Water Engineering/Social Sciences or related field or its equivalent is an added advantage with minimum two (2) years’ experience in the relevant field.
• Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, power point and e.tc.
• Experience working in a rural or peri-urban complex, preferably NGO context.
• Knowledge in Community Led Total Sanitation and PHAST Methodology
• Experience in sanitation and hygiene management and risk assessments.
• Knowledge of WV child and adult safeguarding policies.
• Community Engagement and stakeholder’s engagement at district and provincial level as well as donor engagement
• Conversant with national and international policies on water, sanitation and hygiene.
• Excellent competencies in project management, design, implementation, monitoring and report writing essential in the field of Sanitation, Hygiene and promotion.
• Communication interpersonal analytical, conflict management, negotiations, training and networking skills
• Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, and must be a mature Christian.
• Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.
