The Senior Quantity Surveyor provides strategic leadership in cost management, contract administration, and commercial oversight for the Lumwana Expansion Project. This role is accountable for ensuring that all construction and mining works are delivered within approved budgets, aligned with contractual terms, and compliant with South African construction standards, FIDIC best practices, and Zambian statutory requirements. The position requires a high level of commercial acumen, stakeholder engagement, and proactive risk management to protect project profitability and delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Lead project cost control processes, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Oversee site measurements, valuations, and certification of progress claims for contractors and subcontractors.
Evaluate and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring value for money and compliance with specifications.
Administer contracts in accordance with FIDIC and project-specific requirements, including variation orders, extensions of time, and claims resolution.
Identify, assess, and implement cost-saving opportunities and value engineering initiatives.
Maintain precise and auditable cost control records, reports, and contractual documentation.
Provide commercial advice to project leadership on financial risks, opportunities, and contractual obligations.
Participate in contract negotiations and dispute resolution processes where required.
Ensure adherence to South African (SACQSP-aligned) and Zambian statutory cost management practices.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics (NQF Level 6 or higher).
SACQSP registration preferred (Professional or Candidate).
Experience:

Minimum 3 years in a senior or lead role on large-scale mining, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
Proven ability to work with FIDIC contract standards and manage high-value, multi-disciplinary contracts.
Strong knowledge of measurement standards, cost control methodologies, and project financial reporting.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant QS software tools.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong negotiation and commercial risk management skills.
Analytical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Clear, persuasive communicator capable of engaging at all project levels.

Working Conditions

Site-based role at the Lumwana Expansion Project in a remote mining environment.
Frequent site inspections in active construction zones with full PPE compliance.
May require extended hours and travel within the project area to meet deadlines.
