Maamba Energy Limited (MEL) is jointly owned by Nava Bharat Singapore Pte. Limited and ZCCM-IH plc. The Company owns and operates a large scale coal mine and has also constructed and operates a 300 Mega Watt Coal fired Power Plant to cater for the growing demand for power in Zambia.

Maamba Energy Limited is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic professional who wants to build a career at its Private School Located in Maamba, Sinazongwe District, Southern Province.

Job Purpose

To deliver effective, engaging, and competence-based teaching in Civic Education and English Language, while promoting civic awareness, literacy, national values, and global understanding among learners from Form 1 to Form 4, in line with the Zambian Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Prepare and deliver interactive, learner-centred lessons in Civic Education and English Language, fostering communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop and implement detailed schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment tools aligned with the CBC and ECZ examination requirements.
  • Integrate ICT, audio-visual materials, and literacy-based activities to make learning meaningful and engaging.
  • Guide learners in reading, writing, speaking, and listening projects that enhance language mastery and civic understanding.

Civic Awareness and Community Engagement

  • Design and lead school-based civic awareness programmes that promote active citizenship, democracy, human rights, and social responsibility.
  • Facilitate public awareness activities such as debates, panel discussions, and outreach campaigns that instil civic and linguistic confidence.
  • Collaborate with relevant organizations and local authorities to enrich civic and language learning experiences within the school community.
  • Mentor learners in leadership, communication, community service, and responsible citizenship.

English Language Development

  • Foster learner appreciation and mastery of English Language through reading clubs, writing workshops, drama, and public speaking.
  • Encourage the use of creative writing, literature, and language enrichment activities to develop proficiency and confidence.
  • Integrate cross-curricular themes such as civic responsibility, culture, global citizenship, and media literacy.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Conduct regular and varied forms of assessment in both subjects in line with CBC standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Prepare learners adequately for internal and external examinations.

Professional Conduct and Collaboration

  • Uphold professionalism, integrity, and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development, and school programmes.
  • Support school-wide initiatives aimed at holistic learner development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) with a major in Civic Education and minor in English Language, or vice versa, from a reputable and accredited institution.
  • Must have obtained a Merit or better in both teaching subjects at Grade 12 level.
  • Registered with the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) and in possession of a valid practicing certificate.
  • At least 3 years of proven teaching experience at secondary school level, preferably with exposure to examination classes.
  • Demonstrated experience in public awareness, civic education programmes, literacy promotion, or community engagement projects.
  • Strong understanding of the Zambian Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) and modern pedagogical approaches.
