About ZIS
The Zambian Institute of Sport (ZIS) is Zambia’s premier sports education institution, accredited by TEVETA and operating under the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ). ZIS provides high quality training, certification, research, and professional development aimed at strengthening Zambia’s sports sector and producing skilled sports practitioners, administrators, and educators.
Job Purpose
To oversee and manage the financial operations of ZIS on a part-time basis, working 2.5 days per week. The Accountant will ensure financial accuracy, statutory compliance, effective stewardship of organisational funds, and provide financial support to the Director in advancing ZIS’s mission of professional sports education in Zambia.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and ledgers.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage statutory obligations including NAPSA, NHIMA, PAYE, VAT, and Withholding Tax, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
- Ensure compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, TEVETA and NSCZ requirements where applicable, and national accounting standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor organisational budgets, tracking expenditure against approved budgets.
- Manage partner-funded and donor-aligned financial projects, including allocation, tracking, reporting, and compliance.
- Prepare financial reports for partners, collaborators, and regulatory bodies.
- Process payroll and staff payments accurately and on schedule.
- Support annual audits by preparing required documentation and liaising with external auditors.
- Provide financial analysis and advisory support to assist the Director in strategic and operational decision-making.
Required Skills and Competencies, Intermediate Level
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with Zambian statutory compliance, including NAPSA, NHIMA, and ZRA requirements.
- Experience working within an educational or training institution or a donor-funded environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong financial analysis, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and professional integrity.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong computer literacy and digital skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and technologies.
- Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.
Added Advantage, AI and Digital Accounting Skills
- Ability to use AI-assisted tools for financial data entry, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance tracking.
- Experience with AI-enabled budgeting, forecasting, and data visualisation tools such as Excel AI, Power BI, or QuickBooks Insights.
- Familiarity with automated workflows, AI-supported audit preparation, and fraud detection systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of two to three years accounting experience, preferably within an education or training institution.
- Sound knowledge of Zambian financial regulations and statutory obligations.
- Membership in ZICA will be an added advantage.
