Job Purpose:

To plan, coordinate and monitor water production, treatment, maintenance, distribution, sanitation services and engineering activities in order to meet cost and profit targets whilst complying with legal requirements and ensuring environment protection.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and submits the departmental budget on time and ensures that expenditure is within the approved budget
  • Ensures production, treatment and distribution of adequate and high quality water, reduction in water losses and provision of cost effective sanitary services to customers in order to meet company objectives
  • Monitors on a daily basis the performance of plant, machinery and networks and ensures adherence to maintenance schedules by operating districts.
  • Proposes improvements in the design and deployment of plant and machinery floor service improvement.
  • Monitors adherence to safety, health issues in the company to ensure safe operating environment for all staff in the company by initiating emergency drills and spot audits.
  • Reviews quality results obtained for both water and sewerage by the Quality Assurance Officer and takes corrective action where results are above the set limits
  • Provides overall project management for the Company’s approved CAPEX Programme through specifying engineering studies and designs, supervision of internal project staff as well as contractors to ensure projects are completed with agreed timeframes, cost and specifications.
  • Provides overall technical input in all procurements of equipment and services by reviewing purchase requisitions and attendance to tender committee meetings.
  • Presents quarterly, half yearly and annual reports to NWASCO the sector regulator and Environmental Council of Zambia on the Company’s performance relative to the set sector standards.
  • Prepares and presents quarterly technical reports to the subcommittee of the Board and makes presentations to the board on follow up issues as necessary.
  • Prepares responses requiring technical input following queries from the media, Government and other stakeholders.
  • Provides technical input in investment funding initiatives commissioned by the Company with major funding Donors, Agencies, etc.
  • Supervises. coaches, motivates, develops and disciplines subordinates and agrees, monitors and reviews performance of subordinates in order to ensure that they work towards meeting their targets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Managing Director from time to time

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Minimum Academic qualifications

  • Grade Twelve (12) Form Five (05) with Five “O” Credits including Mathematics and English Language.

Minimum Vocational/Professional qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Chemical Engineering. or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or any other relevant qualification at post graduate will be an added advantage.
  • Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) with a valid practicing license.

Minimum relevant work experience. 

  • Minimum 10 years post qualification experience in a reputable organization of which 5 years at Senior Management.
  • Must not be above the age of 55 years.
  • All foreign qualifications to be certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
  • Must be willing to reside in Solwezi during tenure of employment
